Revelation 22:15-17 The Passion Translation (TPT)

15 Those not permitted to enter are outside: the malicious hypocrites,[a] the sexually immoral, sorcerers,[b] murderers, idolaters, and every lover of lies.

16 “I, Jesus, sent my angel to you to give you this testimony[c] to share with the congregations. I am the bright Morning Star, both David’s spiritual root[d] and his descendant.”[e]

17 “Come,”[f] says the Holy Spirit and the Bride in divine duet. Let everyone who hears this duet join them in saying, “Come.” Let everyone gripped with spiritual thirst say, “Come.” And let everyone who craves the gift of living water[g] come and drink it freely. “It is my gift to you! Come.”

Footnotes:

  1. Revelation 22:15 Or “dogs,” a likely metaphor of those who pretend to follow Christ while hiding their immorality.
  2. Revelation 22:15 The Greek word used here implies drug usage.
  3. Revelation 22:16 Or “to testify to these things.”
  4. Revelation 22:16 Or “scion.” See Isa. 11:1, 10. As the spiritual root of David, Jesus is divine. As the descendant of David, he is human.
  5. Revelation 22:16 Or “family of David.” As the Lord of glory, Jesus is the bright Morning Star who signals the end of night and the beginning of God’s perfect day (Num. 24:17). As the Son of Man, he is the descendant of David. Jesus is both human and divine, even in his eternal state.
  6. Revelation 22:17 Or “be continuously coming”; also in each instance of the word come in this verse and v. 20.
  7. Revelation 22:17 See John 7:37.
