Each of us should live to please his neighbor. This will help him grow in faith. Even Christ did not please Himself. The Holy Writings say, “The sharp words spoken against you fell on Me.” (A) Everything that was written in the Holy Writings long ago was written to teach us. By not giving up, God’s Word gives us strength and hope.

Each of us should please our neighbors for their good,(A) to build them up.(B) For even Christ did not please himself(C) but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”[a](D) For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us,(E) so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
