Romans 7:6-8
New King James Version
6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve (A)in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Sin’s Advantage in the Law
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, (B)I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, (C)“You shall not covet.” 8 But (D)sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For (E)apart from the law sin was dead.

The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then?(C) Is the law sinful? Certainly not!(D) Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.(E) For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”[a](F) 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(G) produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.(H)
