11 But if the Spirit of Him who (A)raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, (B)He who raised (C)Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [a]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

12 So then, brothers, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13 for (D)if you are living according to the flesh, you [b]must die, but if by the Spirit you are (E)putting to death the (F)practices of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are (G)being led by the Spirit of God, these are (H)sons of God. 15 For you (I)have not received a spirit of slavery [c]leading to fear again, but you (J)have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “(K)Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself (L)testifies with our spirit that we are (M)children of God, 17 and if children, also (N)heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, (O)if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

Present Suffering and Future Glory

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (P)are not worthy to be compared with the (Q)glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the (R)anxious longing of the creation eagerly waits for (S)the revealing of the (T)sons of God. 20 For the creation (U)was subjected to (V)futility, not willingly, but (W)because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 [d]that (X)the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation (Y)groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 (Z)And not only this, but also we ourselves, having (AA)the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves (AB)groan within ourselves, (AC)eagerly waiting for our adoption as sons, (AD)the redemption of our body. 24 For (AE)in hope we were saved, but (AF)hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But (AG)if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we eagerly wait for it.

26 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness, for (AH)we do not know how to pray as we should, but (AI)the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and (AJ)He who searches the hearts knows what (AK)the mind of the Spirit is, because He (AL)intercedes for the [e]saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that for those who love God [f](AM)all things work together for good, for those who are (AN)called according to His purpose. 29 Because those whom He (AO)foreknew, He also (AP)predestined to become (AQ)conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the (AR)firstborn among many brothers; 30 and those whom He (AS)predestined, He also (AT)called; and those whom He called, He also (AU)justified; and those whom He justified, He also (AV)glorified.

God Is for Us

31 (AW)What then shall we say to these things? (AX)If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who indeed (AY)did not spare His own Son, but (AZ)delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against (BA)God’s elect? (BB)God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who (BC)condemns? Christ Jesus is He who (BD)died, yes, rather who was [g](BE)raised, who is (BF)at the right hand of God, who also (BG)intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from (BH)the love of [h]Christ? Will (BI)affliction, or turmoil, or (BJ)persecution, or (BK)famine, or (BL)nakedness, or (BM)peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written,

(BN)For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;
We were counted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly (BO)conquer through (BP)Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither (BQ)death, nor life, nor (BR)angels, nor rulers, nor (BS)things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from (BT)the love of God, which is (BU)in Christ Jesus our Lord.

11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead(A) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies(B) because of[a] his Spirit who lives in you.

12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.(C) 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;(D) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,(E) you will live.(F)

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God(G) are the children of God.(H) 15 The Spirit(I) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;(J) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[b] And by him we cry, “Abba,[c] Father.”(K) 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit(L) that we are God’s children.(M) 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs(N)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings(O) in order that we may also share in his glory.(P)

Present Suffering and Future Glory

18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.(Q) 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God(R) to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,(S) in hope 21 that[d] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay(T) and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.(U)

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning(V) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,(W) groan(X) inwardly as we wait eagerly(Y) for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.(Z) 24 For in this hope we were saved.(AA) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.(AB) Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.(AC)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(AD) himself intercedes for us(AE) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(AF) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(AG) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good(AH) of those who love him, who[e] have been called(AI) according to his purpose.(AJ) 29 For those God foreknew(AK) he also predestined(AL) to be conformed to the image of his Son,(AM) that he might be the firstborn(AN) among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined,(AO) he also called;(AP) those he called, he also justified;(AQ) those he justified, he also glorified.(AR)

More Than Conquerors

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things?(AS) If God is for us,(AT) who can be against us?(AU) 32 He who did not spare his own Son,(AV) but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge(AW) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns?(AX) No one. Christ Jesus who died(AY)—more than that, who was raised to life(AZ)—is at the right hand of God(BA) and is also interceding for us.(BB) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?(BC) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?(BD) 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[f](BE)

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors(BF) through him who loved us.(BG) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[g] neither the present nor the future,(BH) nor any powers,(BI) 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God(BJ) that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(BK)
