⁷ For the concern of the flesh is hostility toward God; it does not submit to the law of God, nor can it;^{(A) 8} and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.^(B)

⁴ Adulterers!^[a] Do you not know that to be a lover of the world means enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wants to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God.^(A)

⁴ Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.^(A)
