Elimelech’s Family Goes to Moab

1 Now it came to pass, in the days when ^(A)the judges ^[a]ruled, that there was ^(B)a famine in the land. And a certain man of ^(C)Bethlehem, Judah, went to ^[b]dwell in the country of ^(D)Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.

¹⁸ Then it happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell off the seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck was broken and he died, for the man was old and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

⁶ So they gathered together at Mizpah, ^(A)drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they ^(B)fasted that day, and said there, ^(C)“We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah.

¹⁵ And Samuel ^(A)judged Israel all the days of his life.

^11 (A)since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord ^[a]tells you ^(B)that He will make you a ^[b]house.
