⁷ give alms according to your circumstances, my son, and do not turn your face away from anyone who is poor. Then the face of God will not be turned away from you.^(A)

⁸ Act according to what you have, my son. If you have much, give alms from it; if you have little, give alms in accordance with what you have. Do not be afraid, my son, to give alms.^(A)

Courage in Burying the Dead

¹⁶ In the days of Shalmaneser^[a] I performed many acts of charity to my kindred, those of my people.^(A)

¹⁷ I would give my food to the hungry and my clothing to the naked, and if I saw the dead body of any of my nation thrown out behind the wall of Nineveh, I would bury it.^(A)

⁷ Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not regretfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.^(A)
