Yoel 2:2-4
Orthodox Jewish Bible

2 A day of choshech and of gloominess, a day of anan (cloud) and of thick darkness, as the shachar (dawn) spread upon the mountains; an am rav (great people, army) and strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of dor v’dor.

3 An eish devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth; ha’aretz is as the Gan Eden before them, and behind them a desolate midbar; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of susim; and as horsemen, so shall they run.

    a day of clouds(C) and blackness.(D)
Like dawn spreading across the mountains
    a large and mighty army(E) comes,
such as never was in ancient times(F)
    nor ever will be in ages to come.

3 Before them fire(G) devours,
    behind them a flame blazes.
Before them the land is like the garden of Eden,(H)
    behind them, a desert waste(I)—
    nothing escapes them.
4 They have the appearance of horses;(J)
    they gallop along like cavalry.
