Zephaniah 2:8-10

Good News Translation

⁸^(A)The Lord Almighty says, “I have heard the people of Moab and Ammon insulting and taunting my people, and boasting that they would seize their land. ⁹^(B)As surely as I am the living Lord, the God of Israel, I swear that Moab and Ammon are going to be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah. They will become a place of salt pits and everlasting ruin, overgrown with weeds. Those of my people who survive will plunder them and take their land.”

¹⁰That is how the people of Moab and Ammon will be punished for their pride and arrogance and for insulting the people of the Lord Almighty.

Moab and Ammon

⁸“I have heard the insults^(A) of Moab^(B)
    and the taunts of the Ammonites,^(C)
who insulted^(D) my people
    and made threats against their land.^(E)
⁹Therefore, as surely as I live,”
    declares the Lord Almighty,
    the God of Israel,
“surely Moab^(F) will become like Sodom,^(G)
    the Ammonites^(H) like Gomorrah—
a place of weeds and salt pits,
    a wasteland forever.
The remnant of my people will plunder^(I) them;
    the survivors^(J) of my nation will inherit their land.^(K)”
