24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:

25 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.

26 Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the Lord, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord God liveth.

27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or their's.

29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

30 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give Pharaohhophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.

45 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch:

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.

And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

46 The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;

Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.

Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the Lord.

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

10 For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

12 The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

13 The word that the Lord spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

14 Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

15 Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the Lord did drive them.

16 He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

17 They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

19 O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

21 Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

22 The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

23 They shall cut down her forest, saith the Lord, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

24 The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:

26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the Lord.

27 But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

28 Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.

24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt! 25 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: ‘You and your wives have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands, saying, “We will surely keep our vows that we have made, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her.” You will surely keep your vows and perform your vows!’ 26 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: ‘Behold, (A)I have sworn by My (B)great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that (C)My name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “The Lord God lives.” 27 Behold, I will watch over them for adversity and not for good. And all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt (D)shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end to them. 28 Yet (E)a small number who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah; and all the remnant of Judah, who have gone to the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall know whose words will stand, Mine or theirs. 29 And this shall be a sign to you,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that My words will surely (F)stand against you for adversity.’

30 “Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, (G)I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave (H)Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, his enemy who sought his life.’ ”

Assurance to Baruch

45 The (I)word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to (J)Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book [a]at the instruction of Jeremiah, in the (K)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: ‘You said, “Woe is me now! “Thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, (M)what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land. And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, (N)I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord. “But I will give your (O)life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ’ ”

Judgment on Egypt

46 The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against (P)the nations. Against (Q)Egypt.

(R)Concerning the army of Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon (S)defeated in the (T)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

“Order[b] the [c]buckler and shield,

Harness the horses,

Stand forth with your helmets,
Polish the spears,
(U)Put on the armor!
Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back?
Their mighty ones are beaten down;
They have speedily fled,
And did not look back,
For (V)fear was all around,” says the Lord.
“Do not let the swift flee away,
Nor the mighty man escape;
They will (W)stumble and fall
Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.

“Who is this coming up (X)like a flood,
Whose waters move like the rivers?
Egypt rises up like a flood,

[d]The Ethiopians and [e]the Libyans who handle the shield,
And the Lydians (Y)who handle and bend the bow.
10 For this is (Z)the day of the Lord God of hosts,
A day of vengeance,
That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries.
(AA)The sword shall devour;
It shall be [f]satiated and made drunk with their blood;
For the Lord God of hosts (AB)has a sacrifice
In the north country by the River Euphrates.

11 “Go(AC) up to Gilead and take balm,
(AD)O virgin, the daughter of Egypt;
In vain you will use many medicines;
(AE)You shall not be cured.
12 The nations have heard of your (AF)shame,
And your cry has filled the land;
For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty;
They both have fallen together.”

Babylonia Will Strike Egypt

13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and (AG)strike the land of Egypt.

14 “Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in (AH)Migdol;
Proclaim in [g]Noph and in (AI)Tahpanhes;
Say, ‘Stand fast and prepare yourselves,
For the sword devours all around you.’
15 Why are your valiant men swept away?
They did not stand
Because the Lord drove them away.
16 He made many fall;
Yes, (AJ)one fell upon another.
And they said, ‘Arise!
(AK)Let us go back to our own people
And to the land of our nativity
From the oppressing sword.’
17 They cried there,
‘Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise.
He has passed by the appointed time!’

18 As I live,” says the King,
(AL)Whose name is the Lord of hosts,
“Surely as Tabor is among the mountains
And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.
19 O (AM)you daughter dwelling in Egypt,
Prepare yourself (AN)to go into captivity!
For [h]Noph shall be waste and desolate, without inhabitant.

20 “Egypt is a very pretty (AO)heifer,
But destruction comes, it comes (AP)from the north.
21 Also her mercenaries are in her midst like [i]fat bulls,
For they also are turned back,
They have fled away together.
They did not stand,
For (AQ)the day of their calamity had come upon them,
The time of their punishment.
22 (AR)Her noise shall go like a serpent,

23 “They shall (AS)cut down her forest,” says the Lord,
“Though it cannot be searched,
Because they are innumerable,
And more numerous than (AT)grasshoppers.
24 The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed;
She shall be delivered into the hand
Of (AU)the people of the north.”

25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on [j]Amon of (AV)No,[k] and Pharaoh and Egypt, (AW)with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who (AX)trust in him. 26 (AY)And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of his servants. (AZ)Afterward it shall be inhabited as in the days of old,” says the Lord.

God Will Preserve Israel(BA)

27 “But(BB) do not fear, O My servant Jacob,
And do not be dismayed, O Israel!
For behold, I will (BC)save you from afar,
And your offspring from the land of their captivity;
Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease;
No one shall make him afraid.
28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make (BD)a complete end of you.
I will rightly (BE)correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

Judgment on Philistia

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (BF)against the Philistines, (BG)before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

Thus says the Lord:

“Behold, (BH)waters rise (BI)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
At the (BJ)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
[l]Lacking courage,
Because of the day that comes to plunder all the (BK)Philistines,
To cut off from (BL)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
(BM)The remnant of the country of (BN)Caphtor.[m]
(BO)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
(BP)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?

“O you (BQ)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
How can [n]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has (BR)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has (BS)appointed it.”

Message to Baruch

45 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to (Q)Baruch the son of Neriah, (R)when he wrote these words in a book at the dictation of Jeremiah, (S)in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: You said, (T)‘Woe is me! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain. (U)I am weary with my groaning, (V)and I find no rest.’ Thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord: (W)Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up—that is, the whole land. And (X)do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for behold, (Y)I am bringing disaster upon all flesh, declares the Lord. But I will give you (Z)your life as a prize of war in all places to which you may go.”

Judgment on Egypt

46 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (AA)concerning the nations.

About Egypt. (AB)Concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at Carchemish and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in (AC)the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

(AD)“Prepare buckler and shield,
    and advance for battle!
(AE)Harness the horses;
    mount, O horsemen!
Take your stations with your helmets,
    (AF)polish your spears,
    put on your armor!
Why have I seen it?
They are dismayed
    and have turned backward.
Their (AG)warriors are beaten down
    and have fled in haste;
(AH)they look not back—
    (AI)terror on every side!
declares the Lord.

“The swift cannot flee away,
    nor the warrior escape;
(AJ)in the north by the river Euphrates
    (AK)they have stumbled and fallen.

“Who is this, (AL)rising like the Nile,
    like rivers (AM)whose waters surge?
Egypt rises like the Nile,
    like rivers (AN)whose waters surge.
He said, ‘I will rise, I will cover the earth,
    I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.’
(AO)Advance, O horses,
    and rage, O chariots!
Let the warriors go out:
    men of Cush and (AP)Put who handle the shield,
    (AQ)men of Lud, skilled in handling the bow.
10 (AR)That day is the day of the Lord God of hosts,
    (AS)a day of vengeance,
    (AT)to avenge himself on his foes.
(AU)The sword shall devour and be sated
    and drink its fill of their blood.
For the Lord God of hosts holds (AV)a sacrifice
    (AW)in the north country (AX)by the river Euphrates.
11 (AY)Go up to Gilead, and take (AZ)balm,
    O virgin daughter of Egypt!
In vain you have used many medicines;
    (BA)there is no healing for you.
12 The nations have heard of your shame,
    and the earth is full of your cry;
(BB)for warrior has stumbled against warrior;
    they have both fallen together.”

13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of (BC)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:

14 “Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in (BD)Migdol;
    proclaim in (BE)Memphis and (BF)Tahpanhes;
say, (BG)‘Stand ready and be prepared,
    for (BH)the sword shall devour around you.’
15 Why are your mighty ones face down?
    They do not stand[a]
    because the Lord thrust them down.
16 He made many stumble, (BI)and they fell,
    and they said one to another,
‘Arise, and let us go back to our own people
    and to the land of our birth,
    (BJ)because of the sword of the oppressor.’
17 Call the name of (BK)Pharaoh, king of Egypt,
    ‘Noisy one who lets the hour go by.’

18 (BL)“As I live, declares the King,
    (BM)whose name is the Lord of hosts,
like (BN)Tabor among the mountains
    and like (BO)Carmel by the sea, shall one come.
19 (BP)Prepare yourselves baggage for exile,
    O (BQ)inhabitants of Egypt!
For (BR)Memphis shall become a waste,
    a ruin, (BS)without inhabitant.

20 “A beautiful (BT)heifer is Egypt,
    but a biting fly (BU)from the north has come upon her.
21 Even her hired soldiers in her midst
    are like (BV)fattened calves;
yes, they have turned and fled together;
    they did not stand,
for the day of their calamity has come upon them,
    (BW)the time of their punishment.

22 “She makes (BX)a sound like a serpent gliding away;
    for her enemies march in force
and come against her with axes
    (BY)like those who fell trees.
23 (BZ)They shall cut down her forest,
declares the Lord,
    though it is impenetrable,
because (CA)they are more numerous than locusts;
    they are without number.
24 The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame;
    she shall be delivered into the hand of (CB)a people from the north.”

25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, said: “Behold, I am bringing punishment upon (CC)Amon of (CD)Thebes, and Pharaoh and Egypt (CE)and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him. 26 (CF)I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their life, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. 28 (CJ)Fear not, O Jacob my servant,
declares the Lord,

I will make a full end of all the nations
    to which I have driven you,

(CK)I will discipline you in just measure,

Judgment on the Philistines

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (CL)concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down (CM)Gaza.

“Thus says the Lord:
(CN)Behold, waters are rising (CO)out of the north,
    (CP)and shall become an overflowing torrent;
they shall overflow (CQ)the land and all that fills it,
    the city and those who dwell in it.
Men shall cry out,
    and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.
At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,
    (CR)at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,
the fathers (CS)look not back to their children,
    so feeble are their hands,
because of the day that is coming to destroy
    all (CT)the Philistines,
to cut off from (CU)Tyre and Sidon
    every helper that remains.
For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,
    (CV)the remnant of the coastland of (CW)Caphtor.
(CX)Baldness has come upon Gaza;
    (CY)Ashkelon has perished.
O remnant of their valley,
    (CZ)how long will you gash yourselves?
(DA)Ah, sword of the Lord!
    How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
    rest and be still!
How can it[b] be quiet
    (DB)when the Lord has given it a charge?
Against (DC)Ashkelon and against the seashore
    (DD)he has appointed it.”

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

22 (A)Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And (B)a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, (C)able to teach, (D)patient, 25 (E)in humility correcting those who are in opposition, (F)if God perhaps will grant them repentance, (G)so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and (H)escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Perilous Times and Perilous Men

But know this, that (I)in the last days [a]perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, (J)traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, (K)having a form of godliness but (L)denying its power. And (M)from such people turn away! For (N)of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able (O)to come to the knowledge of the truth. (P)Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: (Q)men of corrupt minds, (R)disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, (S)as theirs also was.

The Man of God and the Word of God

10 (T)But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me (U)at Antioch, (V)at Iconium, (W)at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And (X)out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and (Y)all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 (Z)But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must (AA)continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known (AB)the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 (AC)All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, (AD)and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 (AE)that the man of God may be complete, (AF)thoroughly equipped for every good work.

22 So (A)flee (B)youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with (C)those who call on the Lord (D)from a pure heart. 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant (E)controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And (F)the Lord's servant[a] must not be quarrelsome but (G)kind to everyone, (H)able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents (I)with gentleness. God (J)may perhaps grant them repentance (K)leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from (L)the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

Godlessness in the Last Days

But understand this, that (M)in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be (N)lovers of self, (O)lovers of money, (P)proud, (Q)arrogant, abusive, (R)disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, (S)heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, (T)not loving good, treacherous, reckless, (U)swollen with conceit, (V)lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but (W)denying its power. (X)Avoid such people. For among them are (Y)those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to (Z)arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as (AA)Jannes and Jambres (AB)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, (AC)men corrupted in mind and (AD)disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, (AE)as was that of those two men.

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10 (AF)You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me (AG)at Antioch, (AH)at Iconium, and (AI)at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet (AJ)from them all (AK)the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to (AL)live a godly life in Christ Jesus (AM)will be persecuted, 13 while (AN)evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and (AO)being deceived. 14 But as for you, (AP)continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[b] you learned it 15 and how (AQ)from childhood you have been acquainted with (AR)the sacred writings, (AS)which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 (AT)All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that (AU)the man of God[c] may be complete, (AV)equipped (AW)for every good work.

  2. 2 Timothy 3:14 The Greek for whom is plural
  3. 2 Timothy 3:17 That is, a messenger of God (the phrase echoes a common Old Testament expression)

94 O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.

Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.

Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict thine heritage.

They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?

11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law;

13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

14 For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17 Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.

19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

22 But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.

God the Refuge of the Righteous

94 O Lord God, (A)to whom vengeance belongs—
O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth!
Rise up, O (B)Judge of the earth;
[a]Render punishment to the proud.
Lord, (C)how long will the wicked,
How long will the wicked triumph?

They (D)utter speech, and speak insolent things;
All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves.
They break in pieces Your people, O Lord,
And afflict Your heritage.
They slay the widow and the stranger,
And murder the fatherless.
(E)Yet they say, “The Lord does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob [b]understand.”

Understand, you senseless among the people;
And you fools, when will you be wise?
(F)He who planted the ear, shall He not hear?
He who formed the eye, shall He not see?
10 He who [c]instructs the [d]nations, shall He not correct,
He who teaches man knowledge?
11 The Lord (G)knows the thoughts of man,
That they are futile.

12 Blessed is the man whom You (H)instruct, O Lord,
And teach out of Your law,
13 That You may give him [e]rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not [f]cast off His people,
Nor will He forsake His inheritance.
15 But judgment will return to righteousness,
And all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?
Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
My soul would soon have settled in silence.
18 If I say, “My foot slips,”
Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
19 In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.

20 Shall (I)the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law,
Have fellowship with You?
21 They gather together against the life of the righteous,
And condemn (J)innocent blood.
22 But the Lord has been my defense,
And my God the rock of my refuge.
23 He has brought on them their own iniquity,
And shall [g]cut them off in their own wickedness;
The Lord our God shall cut them off.

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People

94 O Lord, God of (A)vengeance,
    O God of vengeance, (B)shine forth!
(C)Rise up, O (D)judge of the earth;
    repay to the (E)proud what they deserve!
O Lord, (F)how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall (G)the wicked exult?
They pour out their (H)arrogant words;
    all (I)the evildoers boast.
They (J)crush your people, O Lord,
    and afflict your heritage.
They kill (K)the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder (L)the fatherless;
(M)and they say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob does not perceive.”

(N)Understand, O dullest of the people!
    Fools, when will you be wise?
(O)He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10 He who (P)disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who (Q)teaches man knowledge—
11     (R)the Lord—knows the thoughts of man,
    that they are (S)but a breath.[a]

12 (T)Blessed is the man whom you (U)discipline, O Lord,
    and whom you teach out of your law,
13 to give him (V)rest from (W)days of trouble,
    until (X)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 (Y)For the Lord will not forsake his (Z)people;
    he will not abandon his (AA)heritage;
15 for (AB)justice will return to the righteous,
    and all the upright in heart will (AC)follow it.

16 (AD)Who rises up for me against the wicked?
    Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 (AE)If the Lord had not been my help,
    my soul would soon have lived in the land of (AF)silence.
18 When I thought, (AG)“My foot slips,”
    your steadfast love, O Lord, (AH)held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can (AI)wicked rulers be allied with you,
    those who frame[b] injustice by (AJ)statute?
21 They (AK)band together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn (AL)the innocent to death.[c]
22 But the Lord has become my (AM)stronghold,
    and my God (AN)the rock of my (AO)refuge.
23 He will bring back on them (AP)their iniquity
    and (AQ)wipe them out for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will wipe them out.
