In this ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations,

[You should] be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations,

You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials
You now rejoice in this hope, even if it’s necessary for you to be distressed for a short time by various trials.
Rejoice in this, even though for a little while you may have to experience grief in various trials.
On that day you will be glad, even if you have to go through many hard trials for a while.
Wherein ye exult, for a little while at present, if needed, put to grief by various trials,
... in which you are rejoicing-greatly, [although] right-now for a little while, if it is necessary, having been grieved by various trials
Wherein you shall greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in divers temptations:
I know the thought of that is exciting, even if you must suffer through different kinds of troubles for a short time now.
All this causes you to be very happy, even when you have troubles. For a short time now, different kinds of troubles may make you sad.
Because of this you rejoice very much, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various kinds of trials

This makes you very happy. But now for a short time different kinds of troubles may make you sad.
You greatly rejoice in this, even though you have to suffer various kinds of trials for a little while,
This means tremendous joy to you, I know, even though you are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident—it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable than gold, and gold, as you know, even though it is ultimately perishable, must be purified by fire. This proving of your faith is planned to bring you praise and honour and glory in the day when Jesus Christ reveals himself. And though you have never seen him, yet I know that you love him. At present you trust him without being able to see him, and even now he brings you a joy that words cannot express and which has in it a hint of the glories of Heaven; and all the time you are receiving the result of your faith in him—the salvation of your own souls.

So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though the going is rough for a while down here.
I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory.
