2 Corinthians 8:5
Print
And this they did, not as we had hoped, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and unto us by the will of God,
and this, not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.
Not only [did they give materially] as we had hoped, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us [as His representatives] by the will of God [disregarding their personal interests and giving as much as they possibly could].
Nor [was this gift of theirs merely the contribution] that we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us [as His agents] by the will of God [entirely disregarding their personal interests, they gave as much as they possibly could, having put themselves at our disposal to be directed by the will of God]—
And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
and not just as we had hoped. Instead, they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us by God’s will.
They even exceeded our expectations, because they gave themselves to the Lord first and to us, consistent with God’s will.
Also, they didn’t do this in the way we had expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord, which means, by God’s will, to us.
And they did more than we had hoped. They gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us, just as God wanted them to do.
And not according as we hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord, and to us by God's will.
and not as we hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God—
And not as we hoped, but they gave their own selves first to the Lord, then to us by the will of God:
And they gave in a way that we did not expect: They gave themselves to the Lord and to us before they gave their money. This is what God wants.
They did more than we had even hoped for! First, they gave themselves to the Lord. Then they also gave themselves to us. They did that because God wanted them to do it.
And they did this not as we had expected, but in keeping with God’s will they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us.
and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
And they gave in a way we did not expect: They first gave themselves to the Lord and to us. ·This is what God wants […by the will of God].
And this they did, not as we looked for: but gave their own selves, first to the Lord, and after unto us by the will of God,
They did more than we had expected. First, they gave themselves to the Lord and to us, since this was God’s will.
It was more than we could have hoped for! First they gave themselves to the Lord; and then, by God's will they gave themselves to us as well.
and not just as we had hoped. Instead, they gave themselves especially to the Lord, then to us by God’s will.
And they gave in a way that we did not expect: They first gave themselves to the Lord and to us. This is what God wants.
We did not expect that! They gave themselves to the Lord first and then to us, since this was God’s will.
Now, my brothers, we must tell you about the grace that God had given to the Macedonian churches. Somehow, in most difficult circumstances, their joy and the fact of being down to their last penny themselves, produced a magnificent concern for other people. I can guarantee that they were willing to give to the limit of their means, yes and beyond their means, without the slightest urging from me or anyone else. In fact they simply begged us to accept their gifts and so let them share the honours of supporting their brothers in Christ. Nor was their gift, as I must confess I had expected, a mere cash payment. Instead they made a complete dedication of themselves first to the Lord and then to us, as God’s appointed ministers.
And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord and then unto us by the will of God.
And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
and not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us, by the will of God.
Best of all, they went beyond our highest hopes, for their first action was to dedicate themselves to the Lord and to us, for whatever directions God might give to them through us.
This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us. The other giving simply flowed out of the purposes of God working in their lives. That’s what prompted us to ask Titus to bring the relief offering to your attention, so that what was so well begun could be finished up. You do so well in so many things—you trust God, you’re articulate, you’re insightful, you’re passionate, you love us—now, do your best in this, too.
This they did, not as we expected. First, they gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.
And they did this, not simply as we had hoped, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and then to us, by the will of God.
They did more than we had expected. First, they gave themselves to the Lord and to us, since this was God’s will.
and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us through the will of God,
and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
Far exceeding our expectations, they gave themselves first to the Lord, and then, by the will of God, to us.
And they gave in a way we did not expect: They first gave themselves to the Lord and to us. This is what God wants.
And they did this not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
They did more than we expected. First they gave themselves to the Lord. Then they gave themselves to us because that was what God wanted.
And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
And they exceeded our expectations: they gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.
It was more than we expected. They gave themselves to the Lord first. Then they gave themselves to us to be used as the Lord wanted.
They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
And this they did not as we looked for, but gave their own selves first to the Lord, and after to us by the will of God.
and this, not merely as we expected; they gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to us,
and this, not merely as we expected; they gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to us,
and this, not merely as we expected; they gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to us,
and not as we expected. Instead, they gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to us,
They didn’t just do what we had hoped; they gave themselves, first to the Lord, and then to us as God willed it.
And this not merely according to tikvateinu. They gave themselves first to Adoneinu and to us [Moshiach’s Shlichim] birtzon Hashem (in the will of G-d),
And this they did, not as we expected; but gave themselves, first to the Lord, and afterwards to us, by the will of God;
and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
Moreover, it was not just as we had hoped, but they gave of themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will.
We were so overwhelmed—none of us expected their reaction—that they truly turned their lives over to the Lord and then gave themselves to support us in our work as we answer the call of God.
This was not as we had expected, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.
And they did more than we thought they would do. First, they gave themselves to the Lord and to us, because we were doing God's work.
And not as we hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord, afterward to us by the will of God.
and not according as we expected, but themselves they did give first to the Lord, and to us, through the will of God,
