I have disciplined your children in vain; they have rejected my correction. You have devoured your prophets like a hungry lion.
“In vain have I struck down your people. They would not receive correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a marauding lion.
I tried punishing you, but you refused to come back to me, and like fierce lions you killed my prophets.
In vain have I smitten your children: they received no correction. Your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
In vain have I struck your children, they have not received correction: your sword hath devoured your prophets, your generation is like a ravaging lion.
“I punished you people of Judah, but it did not help. You did not come back when you were punished. With your swords you killed the prophets who came to you. Like a dangerous lion, you killed the prophets.”
‘When I punished your people, they did not change how they lived. When I sent my prophets to you, you killed them as if you were a hungry lion.’
I punished your people in vain. They did not respond to correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a raging lion.

I punished you, but it did no good; you would not let me correct you. Like a raging lion, you have murdered your prophets.

“I punished your people, but it did not help. They didn’t come back when they were punished. You killed with your swords the prophets who came to you. You were like a dangerous lion.
“I’ve punished your children with no results, they have accepted no discipline. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.”

“What do you have against me, running off to assert your ‘independence’?” God’s Decree. “I’ve wasted my time trying to train your children. They’ve paid no attention to me, ignored my discipline. And you’ve gotten rid of your God-messengers, treating them like dirt and sweeping them away.

“It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.
“I punished your people. But it did not do them any good. They did not pay attention when they were corrected. You have killed your prophets by swords. You have swallowed them up like a hungry lion.
“In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion.
‘In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion.
“In vain I have chastened your children; They received no correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.
“I have punished your children for nothing, for they would not learn from it. Your sword has destroyed your men of God like a destroying lion.
“I have punished your children, but they did not respond to my discipline. You yourselves have killed your prophets as a lion kills its prey.

I tried to discipline your sons, but it didn’t work; they wouldn’t listen. You destroyed the prophets I sent to speak truth to you. You devoured them as a lion does his prey.

In vain I smote your sons, they received not chastising; your sword devoured your prophets, your generation is destroyed as a lion. (In vain I struck down your sons and daughters, for they would not receive their discipline, or their correction; your own sword devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.)
