Job 22:6
Print
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, And stripped the naked of their clothing.
“For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, And stripped men naked.
For you have taken pledges of your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you took collateral from your brothers without cause, stripping off their clothes and leaving them naked.
You have taken payments from your family for no reason; stripped the naked, leaving no clothes;
“For you kept your kinsmen’s goods as collateral for no reason, you stripped the poorly clothed of what clothing they have,
To guarantee payment of a debt, you have taken clothes from innocent people.
For thou hast taken a pledge of thy brother for nought, and stripped off the clothing of the naked.
For thou hast taken away the pledge of thy brethren without cause, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Maybe to guarantee loans you took things from people for no reason. Maybe you took a poor man’s clothes to make sure he paid you back.
You took things from your friends when you lent money to them. You had no reason to do that. You even took away the only clothes that poor people were wearing.
You have seized collateral from your brothers without cause, and you have stripped off clothing from the naked.
For you have exacted pledges of your brothers for nothing and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges of your brothers for nothing and stripped the naked of their clothing.
You ·took your brothers’ things for a debt they didn’t owe [L exacted pledges from your brothers for no reason; Ex. 21:25–27]; you took clothes from people and left them naked.
For thou hast taken the pledge from thy brother for nought, and spoiled the clothes of the naked.
For no reason you take your brothers’ goods as security for a loan and strip them of their clothes.
To make a brother repay you the money he owed, you took away his clothes and left him nothing to wear.
For you took collateral from your brothers without cause, stripping off their clothes and leaving them naked.
You took your brothers’ things to pay a debt they didn’t owe. You took clothes from people and left them naked.
“After all, you’ve taken collateral from your relatives for no reason; you stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou didst take a pledge from thy brother without cause and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, And stripped the clothing of the naked.
“Indeed, you have required a pledge from your family for nothing, and you have stripped off the clothes of the naked.
“For instance, you must have refused to loan money to needy friends unless they gave you all their clothing as a pledge—yes, you must have stripped them to the bone.
Once again Eliphaz the Temanite took up his theme: “Are any of us strong enough to give God a hand, or smart enough to give him advice? So what if you were righteous—would God Almighty even notice? Even if you gave a perfect performance, do you think he’d applaud? Do you think it’s because he cares about your purity that he’s disciplining you, putting you on the spot? Hardly! It’s because you’re a first-class moral failure, because there’s no end to your sins. When people came to you for help, you took the shirts off their backs, exploited their helplessness. You wouldn’t so much as give a drink to the thirsty, or food, not even a scrap, to the hungry. And there you sat, strong and honored by everyone, surrounded by immense wealth! You turned poor widows away from your door; heartless, you crushed orphans. Now you’re the one trapped in terror, paralyzed by fear. Suddenly the tables have turned! How do you like living in the dark, sightless, up to your neck in flood waters?
For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For no reason you take your brothers’ goods as security for a loan and strip them of their clothes.
You keep your relatives’ goods in pledge unjustly, leave them stripped naked of their clothing.
For you have seized pledges from your brothers without cause, And stripped people naked.
“For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, And stripped men naked.
“You have exacted pledges from your brothers as security and left them naked, stripped of their clothing.
You took your brothers’ things for a debt they didn’t owe; you took clothes from people and left them naked.
“For you took pledges from your brothers for no reason, and you stripped the clothing from the naked.
You took clothes away from your relatives just because they owed you some money. You left them naked for no reason at all.
You demanded security from your relatives for no reason; you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.
You demanded security from your relatives for no reason; you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.
For you have taken pledges from your brother for no reason, And stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have taken things from your brothers when they did not owe you anything. You have taken all their clothing and they have had nothing to wear.
“For example, you must have lent money to your friend and demanded clothing as security. Yes, you stripped him to the bone.
For you have exacted pledges from your family for no reason, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges from your family for no reason, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges from your family for no reason, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges from your family for no reason and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast exacted a pledge from thy brother for naught, and stripped the arummim (naked ones) of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges of your brothers for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have exacted pledges of your brothers for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you took pledges from your brothers for no reason; you stripped the naked of their clothing.
When your relatives came to you needing money, for no good reason you took their clothes for collateral and left them naked.
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken away without cause the wed of thy brethren; and hast spoiled naked men of clothes. (For thou hast taken away thy brother’s pledge without a reason; and thou hast robbed people of their clothes, making them naked.)
For thou takest a pledge of thy brother for nought, And the garments of the naked Thou dost strip off.
