Before I go whence I shall not return, Even to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
Before I go—and I shall not return— To the land of darkness and the deep shadow [of death],
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death,

before I go to a land of darkness and gloom, never to return.
before I go and don’t return to a land of deepest darkness,
before I go to the place of no return, to the land of darkness and death-dark gloom,
before I travel to the land
Before I go, and never to return,—to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
Before I go, and return no more, to a land that is dark and covered with the mist of death:
I am going soon to the land of no return, the place of death and darkness—
I will soon go to the dark place where there is no hope. I will never come back from that place.
before I walk into the land of darkness and into the shadow of death, never to return,
before I go—and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,
before I go—and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,
Soon I will leave; I will not return from the land of darkness and gloom,
Before I go and shall not return, even to the land of darkness and shadow of death:
before I go away to a land of darkness and gloom,
I am going soon and will never come back— going to a land that is dark and gloomy,
before I go to a land of darkness and gloom, never to return.
Soon I will leave and not return. I will go to the land of darkness and gloom.
before I go, never to return, leaving for the land of deep darkness and shadow.
before I go, to not return, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;

Before I go—and I shall not return— To the land of darkness and shadow of death,
Before I go—and I will not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,
Can’t you see how little time I have left? Oh, leave me alone that I may have a little moment of comfort before I leave for the land of darkness and the shadow of death, never to return—
“So why did you have me born? I wish no one had ever laid eyes on me! I wish I’d never lived—a stillborn, buried without ever having breathed. Isn’t it time to call it quits on my life? Can’t you let up, and let me smile just once Before I die and am buried, before I’m nailed into my coffin, sealed in the ground, And banished for good to the land of the dead, blind in the final dark?”

Before I go to the place from which I won’t return, to the land of utter darkness and still shadows,

before that I go, and turn not again, to the dark land, and (be) covered with the darkness of death, (before that I go to the dark land, and am covered with the darkness of death, never to return,)
