They change the night into day; the light is short because of darkness.
They change the night into day: The light, say they, is near unto the darkness.
“These [thoughts try to] make the night into the day; ‘The light is near,’ they say in the presence of darkness [but they pervert the truth].
These [thoughts] extend from the night into the day, [so that] the light is short because of darkness.
They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
They turned night into day and made light seem near in the face of darkness.
They turn night into day; light is near because of the darkness.
but they [try to] turn [my] night into day, [saying,] ‘Light is near!’ — in the face of darkness.
But all my friends can do is offer empty hopes.
They change the night into day; the light [they imagine] near in presence of the darkness.
They have turned night into day, and after darkness I hope for light again.
Everything is confused— night is day, and evening comes when it should be dawn.
My friends say, “It is day”, when it is still night. They do not know the difference between light and dark.
They turn night into day. In the face of darkness, they claim light is near.
They make night into day: ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is near to the darkness.’
They make night into day: ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is near to the darkness.’

Have changed the night for the day, and the light that approached, for darkness.
You say that night is day. Light has nearly become darkness.
But my friends say night is daylight; they say that light is near, but I know I remain in darkness.
They turned night into day and made light seem near in the face of darkness.
These men think night is day. When it is dark, they say, ‘Light is near.’
They have transformed night into day— ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is about to become dark.’
They changed the night into day; the light is short because of the darkness.

They make night into day, saying, ‘The light is near,’ in the presence of darkness.
They make night into day, saying, ‘Light is near to darkness.’
They say that night is day and day is night; how they pervert the truth!
“Maybe you’d all like to start over, to try it again, the bunch of you. So far I haven’t come across one scrap of wisdom in anything you’ve said. My life’s about over. All my plans are shattered, all my hopes are snuffed out— My hope that night would turn into day, my hope that dawn was about to break. If all I have to look forward to is a home in the graveyard, if my only hope for comfort is a well-built coffin, If a family reunion means going six feet under, and the only family that shows up is worms, Do you call that hope? Who on earth could find any hope in that? No. If hope and I are to be buried together, I suppose you’ll all come to the double funeral!”
They change the night into day; the light is short because of darkness.
You say that night is day. Light has nearly become darkness.
They would change the night into day; where there is darkness they talk of approaching light.
They make night into day, saying, ‘The light is near,’ in the presence of darkness.

My enemies would have me believe that night is day and that the light will soon eradicate the darkness.
These men think night is day; when it is dark, they say, ‘Light is near.’
These men change night into day; they say, ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’

And yet my friends say, this loss of hope is for good, turning my dark night into what appears to them as day. In the pitch darkness, these broken plans and secret wishes speak to me. They say, “There is light nearby.”
They change the night into day, saying ‘The light is near’ in the presence of darkness.
Those have turned the night into day; and again after darknesses hope (for) light. (They have turned the night into day; and then again after darkness, hope for some light.)
Night for day they appoint, Light [is] near because of darkness.
