My words were eagerly accepted like the showers of spring,
And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for a latter shower.
They waited for my words as they would for rain. They drank them in like rain in the springtime.
They would wait for me to speak to them, like people who wait for rain to fall. My words would make them happy, like rain in spring that makes a farmer happy.
They waited for me the way people wait for rain. They opened their mouths the way people wait for spring showers.
They waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouths as for the spring rain.
They waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouths as for the spring rain.
They waited for me as they would for rain and ·drank in my words like [L opened their mouth for] spring rain.

They longed for me to speak as those in drought-time long for rain. They waited eagerly with open mouths.
“Men and women listened when I spoke, hung expectantly on my every word. After I spoke, they’d be quiet, taking it all in. They welcomed my counsel like spring rain, drinking it all in. When I smiled at them, they could hardly believe it; their faces lit up, their troubles took wing! I was their leader, establishing the mood and setting the pace by which they lived. Where I led, they followed.”

Indeed, they waited for me as one waits for a good rain, and they opened their mouths as if to catch spring showers on their tongues.
They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.
They abided me as (for the) rain; and they opened their mouth as to the soft rain coming late. (They waited for my words like for they waited for the rain; and they opened their mouths to drink them in, like the soft rain that cometh late.)
And they wait as [for] rain for me, And their mouth they have opened wide [As] for the latter rain.
