“In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travelers walked through byways.

“In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, In the days of Jael, the highways were deserted, And travelers went by roundabout ways.
After the days of Shamgar son of Anath, after the days of Jael [meaning here Ehud] the caravans ceased, travelers walked through byways.
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.
In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the main roads were deserted because travelers kept to the side roads.
In the days of Shamgar, Anath’s son, in the days of Jael, caravans ceased. Those traveling by road kept to the backroads.
“In the days of Shamgar the son of ‘Anat, in the days of Ya‘el, the main roads were deserted; travelers walked the byways.
In the time of Shamgar son of Anath, and now again in Jael's time, roads were too dangerous for caravans. Travelers had to take the back roads,
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, The roads were unused, and the travellers on highways went by crooked paths.
In the days of Samgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jahel the paths rested: and they that went by them, walked through by-ways.
“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, and in the days of Jael, the main roads were empty. Caravans and travelers traveled on the back roads.
When Anath's son Shamgar ruled the land, nobody travelled on the roads. When Jael ruled, people walked on secret paths, because they were afraid.
In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the main roads were deserted, and travelers kept to pathways and winding roads.
“In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned, and travelers kept to the byways.
“In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned, and travellers kept to the byways.
“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath [3:31], in the days of Jael, the ·main roads were empty [highways were deserted; or caravans were no more]. Travelers went on ·the back roads [winding paths; C because of Canaanite robbers on the highways].

During the lifetime of Anath’s son Shamgar and during the lifetime of Jael highways remained deserted, while travelers kept to back roads.

“In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, In the days of Jael, the paths had ceased, So travelers went by roundabout paths.

In the days of Shamgar and of Jael, The main roads were deserted. Travelers used the narrow, crooked side paths.
In the time of Shamgar son of Anath, and in the time of Jael, Public roads were abandoned, travelers went by backroads. Warriors became fat and sloppy, no fight left in them. Then you, Deborah, rose up; you got up, a mother in Israel. God chose new leaders, who then fought at the gates. And not a shield or spear to be seen among the forty companies of Israel.
“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, main roads were abandoned and travelers used roundabout paths.
In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, roads were deserted. Those who traveled took back roads.
In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, caravans ceased: Those who traveled the roads now traveled by roundabout paths.

“The main roads were deserted. So travelers used the winding paths. That happened in the days of Shamgar, the son of Anath. It happened in the days of Jael.
“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths.
‘In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned; travellers took to winding paths.
“In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, In the days of Jael, The highways were deserted, And the travelers walked along the byways.
“In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the wide roads were empty. Travelers walked on the side roads.
“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, and in the days of Jael, people avoided the main roads, and travelers stayed on winding pathways.
‘In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, caravans ceased and travellers kept to the byways.
‘In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, caravans ceased and travellers kept to the byways.
