Romans 4:10

How was it then reckoned? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision!
How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:
How then was it credited [to him]? Was it after he had been circumcised, or before? Not after, but while [he was] uncircumcised.
How then was it credited [to him]? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
In what way, then, was it credited—while he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? It was not while he was circumcised, but uncircumcised.
So how was it credited? When he was circumcised, or when he wasn’t circumcised? In fact, it was credited while he still wasn’t circumcised, not after he was circumcised.
but what state was he in when it was so credited — circumcision or uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision!
But when did this happen? Was it before or after Abraham was circumcised? Of course, it was before.
How then has it been reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How then was it credited— to one being in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision!
How then was it reputed? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham before or after he was circumcised? God accepted him before his circumcision.
They circumcised Abraham to show that he was a Jew. Think about the time when God accepted Abraham. Did it happen before they circumcised him, or after that? We know that it was before they circumcised him!
So then, under what circumstances was it credited to him? Was he circumcised or uncircumcised at that time? He was not circumcised but uncircumcised,
How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham before or after he was circumcised? It was not after, but before his circumcision.
How was it then imputed? when he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? not when he was circumcised, but when he was uncircumcised.
How was his faith regarded as the basis of God’s approval? Was he circumcised or was he uncircumcised at that time? He had not been circumcised.
When did this take place? Was it before or after Abraham was circumcised? It was before, not after.
In what way then was it credited—while he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while he was circumcised, but uncircumcised.
So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham before or after he was circumcised? God accepted him before his circumcision.
Under what circumstances was it credited? Was he circumcised or uncircumcised? He had not yet been circumcised, but was uncircumcised.
Now the question, an important one, arises: is this happiness for the circumcised only, or for the uncircumcised as well? Note this carefully. We began by saying that Abraham’s faith was counted unto him for righteousness. When this happened, was he a circumcised man? He was not, he was still uncircumcised. It was afterwards that the sign of circumcision was given to him, as a seal upon that righteousness which God was accounting to him as yet an uncircumcised man! God’s purpose here is twofold. First, that Abraham might be the spiritual father of all who since that time, despite their circumcision, show the faith that is counted as righteousness. Then, secondly, that he might be the circumcised father of all those who are not only circumcised, but are living by the same sort of faith which he himself had before he was circumcised.
How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How then was it counted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;
How then was it credited? While he was circumcised or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised but while uncircumcised!
For the answer to that question, answer this one: When did God give this blessing to Abraham? It was before he became a Jew—before he went through the Jewish initiation ceremony of circumcision.
Now think: Was that declaration made before or after he was marked by the covenant rite of circumcision? That’s right, before he was marked. That means that he underwent circumcision as evidence and confirmation of what God had done long before to bring him into this acceptable standing with himself, an act of God he had embraced with his whole life.
How then was it credited? When he was in circumcision? Or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How then was it credited to him? Was it after he was circumcised or before? It was not after his circumcision but before.
How was his faith regarded as the basis of God’s approval? Was he circumcised or was he uncircumcised at that time? He had not been circumcised.
Under what circumstances was it credited? Was he circumcised or not? He was not circumcised, but uncircumcised.
How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;
How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;
How was it credited? Was it when he was circumcised or uncircumcised? Not when he was circumcised, but when he was uncircumcised.
So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham before or after he was circumcised? It was before his circumcision.
How then was it credited to him? Was he circumcised at the time, or not? No, he was not circumcised but uncircumcised!
When did it happen? Was it after Abraham was circumcised, or before? It was before he was circumcised, not after!
Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!
Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!
How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.
When did this happen? Was it before or after Abraham went through the religious act of becoming a Jew? It was before.
But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised!
How then was it reckoned? In the time of circumcision, or in the time before he was circumcised? Not in the time of circumcision, but when he was yet uncircumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after but before he was circumcised.
How was it calculated? When he was circumcised or when he was uncircumcised? It wasn’t when he was circumcised; it was when he was uncircumcised!
When then was it "reckoned"? When Avraham Avinu had the bris milah and was in the state of circumcision? Or when Avraham Avinu did not have the bris milah and was in the state of uncircumcision?
How, then, was it counted - when he was circumcised or uncircumcised? Not when he was circumcised, but when he was uncircumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
In what state then was it credited? While circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised!
So when was the credit awarded to Abraham? Was it before or after his circumcision? Well, it certainly wasn’t after—it was before he was circumcised.
How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
When did God say that? Was it when Abraham was circumcised? Or was it before? It was not when he was circumcised: it was before.
How then was it areckoned [reckoned]? in circumcision, or in prepuce? Not in circumcision, but in prepuce.
how then was it reckoned? he being in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision;
