Psalm 6

Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.

For the music director; with stringed instruments, [a]upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David.

Lord, (A)do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor discipline me in Your wrath.
Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am (B)frail;
(C)Heal me, Lord, for (D)my bones are horrified.
And my (E)soul is greatly horrified;
But You, Lord(F)how long?

Return, Lord, (G)rescue my [b]soul;
Save me because of Your mercy.
For (H)there is no [c]mention of You in death;
In [d]Sheol, who will praise You?

I am (I)weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I flood my couch with (J)my tears.
My (K)eye has wasted away with grief;
It has grown old because of all my enemies.

(L)Leave me, all you who practice injustice,
For the Lord (M)has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord (N)has heard my pleading,
The Lord (O)receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will (P)be put to shame and greatly horrified;
They shall [e]turn back, they will (Q)suddenly be put to shame.

Psalm 8-10

The Lords Glory and Mankind’s Dignity.

For the music director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
You who have [a](A)displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
(B)From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your enemies,
To do away with (D)the enemy and the revengeful.

When I [c](E)consider (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
(H)What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than [d]God,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
You have him (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put everything under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
The birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(N)Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the music director; on [e]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (O)my heart;
I will (P)tell of all Your [f]wonders.
I will rejoice and be (Q)jubilant in You;
I will (R)sing praise to Your name, O (S)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (T)perish before You.
For You have (U)maintained [g]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [h](V)judging righteously.
You have (W)rebuked the nations, You have eliminated the wicked;
You have (X)wiped out their name forever and ever.
[i]The enemy has come to an end in everlasting ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (Y)memory of them has perished.

But the (Z)Lord [j]sits as King forever;
He has established His (AA)throne for judgment,
And He will (AB)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples fairly.
[k]The Lord will also be a (AC)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [l]those who (AD)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, Lord, have not (AE)abandoned those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (AF)dwells in Zion;
(AG)Declare His deeds among the peoples.
12 For (AH)He who [m]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (AI)the cry of the needy.
13 Be gracious to me, Lord;
See my oppression from those (AJ)who hate me,
You who (AK)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 So that I may tell of (AL)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (AM)rejoice in Your [n]salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down (AN)into the pit which they have made;
In the (AO)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has (AP)made Himself known;
He has (AQ)executed judgment.
A wicked one is ensnared in the work of his own hands. [o]Higgaion Selah

17 The wicked will [p](AR)return to [q]Sheol,
All the nations who (AS)forget God.
18 For the (AT)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (AU)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (AV)Arise, Lord, do not let mankind prevail;
Let the nations be (AW)judged before You.
20 Put them (AX)in fear, Lord;
Let the nations know that they are (AY)merely human. Selah

A Prayer for the Overthrow of the Wicked.

10 Why (AZ)do You stand far away, Lord?
Why (BA)do You hide [r]Yourself in times of trouble?
In (BB)arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the needy;
[s]Let them be (BC)caught in the plots which they have devised.

For the wicked (BD)boasts of his (BE)soul’s desire,
And [t]the greedy person curses and (BF)shows disrespect to the Lord.
The wicked, [u]in his haughtiness, (BG)does not seek Him.
(BH)There is no God in all his schemes.

His ways (BI)succeed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, (BJ)out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
He says to himself, “(BK)I will not be moved;
[v]Throughout the generations (BL)I will not be in adversity.”
His (BM)mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and (BN)oppression;
(BO)Under his tongue is harm and injustice.
He sits in the (BP)lurking places of the villages;
He (BQ)kills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes [w]surreptitiously watch for the [x](BR)unfortunate.
He lurks in secret like (BS)a lion in his [y]lair;
He (BT)lurks to catch (BU)the needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his (BV)net.
10 Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And [z]unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
11 He (BW)says to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”

12 Arise, Lord; God, (BX)lift up Your hand.
(BY)Do not forget the humble.
13 Why has the wicked (BZ)treated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “[aa]You will not require an account.”
14 You have seen it, for You have looked at (CA)harm and provocation to [ab]take it into Your hand.
The [ac](CB)unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the (CC)helper of the orphan.
15 (CD)Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
[ad](CE)Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

16 The Lord is (CF)King forever and ever;
(CG)Nations have perished from His land.
17 Lord, You have heard the (CH)desire of the humble;
You will (CI)strengthen their heart, (CJ)You will make Your ear attentive
18 To [ae]vindicate the (CK)orphan and the (CL)oppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause (CM)terror.

Psalm 14

Foolishness and Wickedness of People.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

14 The fool has (A)said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts;
There is (B)no one who does good.
The Lord has (C)looked down from heaven upon the sons of mankind
To see if there are any who [a](D)understand,
Who (E)seek God.
They have all (F)turned aside, together they are corrupt;
There is (G)no one who does good, not even one.

Do all the workers of injustice (H)not know,
Who (I)devour my people as they eat bread,
And (J)do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great dread,
For God is with a (K)righteous generation.
You would put to shame the plan of the poor,
But the Lord is his (L)refuge.

Oh, that (M)the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord (N)restores the fortunes of His people,
Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.

Psalm 16

The Lord, the Psalmist’s Portion in Life and Salvation in Death.

A [a]Mikhtam of David.

16 (A)Protect me, God, for (B)I take refuge in You.
[b]I said to the Lord, “You are [c]my Lord;
I (C)have nothing good besides You.”
As for the [d](D)saints who are on the earth,
[e]They are the majestic ones; (E)all my delight is in them.
[f]The (F)pains of those who have acquired another god will be multiplied;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of (G)blood,
Nor will I (H)take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the (I)portion of my inheritance and my (J)cup;
You support my (K)lot.
The measuring (L)lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is (M)beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has (N)advised me;
Indeed, my [g](O)mind instructs me in the night.
(P)I have (Q)set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is (R)at my right hand, (S)I will not be shaken.
Therefore (T)my heart is glad and (U)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (V)dwell securely.
10 For You (W)will not abandon my soul to [h]Sheol;
You will not [i](X)allow Your [j]Holy One to [k]undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me (Y)the way of life;
In (Z)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (AA)pleasures forever.

Psalm 19

The Works and the Word of God.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

19 The (A)heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their (B)expanse declares the work of His hands.
Day to (C)day pours forth speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their [a](E)line has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices like a strong person to run his course.
Its (G)rising is from [b]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [c]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

(H)The Law of the Lord is [d](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, yes, than much pure gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, (U)Your servant is warned by them;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep Your servant back (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be (AB)innocent,
And I will be blameless of (AC)great wrongdoing.
14 May the words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
Lord, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.

Psalm 21

Praise for Salvation.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

21 Lord, in Your strength the king will (A)be glad,
And in Your [a]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
You have (B)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
For You (C)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (D)crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked for life from You,
You (E)gave it to him,
(F)Length of days forever and ever.
His (G)glory is great through Your [b]salvation,
(H)Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
For You make him [c]most (I)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (J)with the joy of Your presence.

For the king (K)trusts in the Lord,
And through the faithfulness of the Most High (L)he will not be shaken.
Your hand will (M)find all your enemies;
Your right hand will find those who hate you.
You will make them (N)as a fiery oven in the time [d]of your anger;
The Lord will (O)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (P)fire will devour them.
10 You will eliminate their [e]descendants from the earth,
And their [f](Q)children from among the sons of mankind.
11 Though they [g](R)intended evil against You
And (S)devised a plot,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (T)make them turn their back;
You will take aim at their faces (U)with Your bowstrings.
13 Be exalted, Lord, in Your strength;
We will (V)sing and praise Your power.
