Acts 23:5-7
New English Translation
5 Paul replied,[a] “I did not realize,[b] brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You must not speak evil about a ruler of your people.’”[c]
6 Then when Paul noticed[d] that part of them were Sadducees[e] and the others Pharisees,[f] he shouted out in the council,[g] “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am on trial concerning the hope of the resurrection[h] of the dead!” 7 When he said this,[i] an argument[j] began[k] between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.

[obj. gen] as 2 Macc 3:29 ἐ. καὶ σωτηρία).” With an objective genitive construction, the resurrection of the dead would be the “object” of the hope.

5 Paul replied, “Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’[a]”(A)
6 Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees(B) and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers,(C) I am a Pharisee,(D) descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”(E) 7 When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.
