23 And they came to (A)Marah, but they could not drink the waters [a]of Marah, for they were [b]bitter; therefore it was named [c]Marah. 24 So the people (B)grumbled at Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 Then he (C)cried out to Yahweh, and Yahweh showed him (D)a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet.

There He (E)set for them a statute and a judgment, and there He (F)tested them.

25 Then Moses cried out(D) to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw(E) it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.(F)
