Exodus 17:6-8

6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at (A)Horeb; and (B)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 So he named the place [a](C)Massah and [b](D)Meribah because of the contending of the sons of Israel, and because they (E)tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us or not?”
Israel Overwhelms Amalek
8 Then (F)Amalek came and fought against Israel at (G)Rephidim.

Exodus 17:6-8
New International Version
6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(A) Strike(B) the rock, and water(C) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](D) and Meribah[b](E) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
