And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim so that he could not see,

Yet it happened at that time, as Eli was lying down in his own place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well).
At that time Eli, whose eyesight had dimmed so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place.
And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing, was lying in his usual place.
One day Eli, whose eyes had grown so weak he was unable to see, was lying down in his room.
Once, during that period, ‘Eli had gone to bed — his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that it was hard for him to see.
Samuel served the Lord by helping Eli the priest, who was by that time almost blind. In those days, the Lord hardly ever spoke directly to people, and he did not appear to them in dreams very often. But one night, Eli was asleep in his room,
And it came to pass at that time, when Eli lay in his place (now his eyes began to grow dim, he could not see),
And it came to pass one day when Heli lay in his place, and his eyes were grown dim, that he could not see:
Eli’s eyes were getting so weak that he was almost blind. One night he went to his room to go to bed.

Now it happened that Eli’s eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see. Once when Eli was lying down in his place
At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place.

One night Eli, who was now almost blind, was sleeping in his own room;

At that time Eli, whose vision was growing dim, was lying down in his bedroom.
And it came to pass one day when Eli was lain down in his place, his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

but one night after Eli had gone to bed (he was almost blind with age by now), and Samuel was sleeping in the Temple near the Ark,
The boy Samuel was serving God under Eli’s direction. This was at a time when the revelation of God was rarely heard or seen. One night Eli was sound asleep (his eyesight was very bad—he could hardly see). It was well before dawn; the sanctuary lamp was still burning. Samuel was still in bed in the Temple of God, where the Chest of God rested.
At that time, Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow weak that he could not see),
One night Eli was lying down in his room. His eyesight had begun to fail so that he couldn’t see well.
One day Eli was asleep in his usual place. His eyes had lately grown so weak that he could not see.
But it happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to be poor and he could not see well),

At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow so weak so that he could not see well anymore, was lying down in his place.
Eli’s eyes were so weak he was almost blind. One night he was lying in bed.

Therefore it was done in a day, Eli lay in his bed, and his eyes dimmed, and he might not see; (And so it was done one night, when Eli lay on his bed, and his eyes had dimmed, and he could not see;)
And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Eli is lying down in his place, and his eyes have begun to be dim -- he is not able to see.
