Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me.
But if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will [appear to] be a foreigner to the one who is speaking [since he knows exactly what he is saying], and the one who is speaking will [appear to] be a foreigner to me.
But if I do not know the force and significance of the speech (language), I shall seem to be a foreigner to the one who speaks [to me], and the speaker who addresses [me] will seem a foreigner to me.
Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker will be a foreigner to me.
So if I don’t know the meaning of the language, then I will be like a foreigner to those who speak it, and they will be like foreigners to me.
but if I don’t know what a person’s sounds mean, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker will be a foreigner to me.
But if I don't understand the language that someone is using, we will be like foreigners to each other.
If therefore I do not know the power of the sound, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks a barbarian for me.
If then I do not know the force of the spoken sound, I will be a barbarian to the one speaking, and the one speaking a barbarian with me.
If then I know not the power of the voice, I shall be to him to whom I speak a barbarian; and he that speaketh, a barbarian to me.
But if I don’t understand the meaning of what someone is saying, it will just be strange sounds to me, and I will sound just as strange to them.
Perhaps somebody may speak to me in a language that I do not understand. Then we are like foreign people to each other.
Accordingly, if I do not understand the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and he will be a foreigner to me.
but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me.
but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me.
But unless I understand the meaning of what someone says to me, we will be like ·foreigners [barbarians] to each other.

So unless I understand the meaning of what someone says to me, we will be like strangers to each other.
If I don’t know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker will be a foreigner to me.
There are in the world a great variety of spoken sounds and each has a distinct meaning. But if the sounds of the speaker’s voice mean nothing to me I am a foreigner to him, and he is a foreigner to me.
Therefore, if I ignore the virtue of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaks as a barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.
Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

but to me they mean nothing. A person talking to me in one of these languages will be a stranger to me and I will be a stranger to him.
So if you speak in a way no one can understand, what’s the point of opening your mouth? There are many languages in the world and they all mean something to someone. But if I don’t understand the language, it’s not going to do me much good. It’s no different with you. Since you’re so eager to participate in what God is doing, why don’t you concentrate on doing what helps everyone in the church?
Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the speech, I shall be a barbarian to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a barbarian to me.

But if I do not comprehend the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and he will be a foreigner to me.
