Lord, ·you are ready to punish those people [L your hand is lifted up; C ready to strike], but they do not see that. ·Show them your strong love for your people [L They will see your zeal for your people; or They will see your zealous judgment against mankind]. ·Then those who are evil [L …and they] will be ashamed. ·Burn [Consume] them in the fire ·you have prepared for [L of] your ·enemies [adversaries].
Lord, you are ready to punish those people. But they do not see that. Lord, show them your strong love for your people. Then the evil people will be ashamed. Burn them in the fire you have prepared for your enemies.
They do not listen when you threaten; they will not look to see your upraised fist. Show them how much you love your people. Perhaps then they will be ashamed! Yes, let them be burned up by the fire reserved for your enemies.
You hold your hand up high, God, but they don’t see it. Open their eyes to what you do, to see your zealous love for your people. Shame them. Light a fire under them. Get the attention of these enemies of yours. God, order a peaceful and whole life for us because everything we’ve done, you’ve done for us. O God, our God, we’ve had other masters rule us, but you’re the only Master we’ve ever known. The dead don’t talk, ghosts don’t walk, Because you’ve said, “Enough—that’s all for you,” and wiped them off the books. But the living you make larger than life. The more life you give, the more glory you display, and stretch the borders to accommodate more living!
Lord, you are ready to punish those people, but they do not see that. Show them your strong love for your people. Then those who are evil will be ashamed. Burn them in the fire you have prepared for your enemies.
Lord, you have raised your hand high to punish them. But they don’t even see it. Let them see how much you love your people. Then they will be put to shame. Let the fire you are saving for your enemies burn them up.
O Eternal One, even when Your hand is raised against them, they do not see it. When they finally do see how passionately You act on the people’s behalf, they will be ashamed. Ah, let the fire that consumes Your enemies consume them.
