Now don’t complain about these things. If you fight against them, you will only tighten the ropes around you. The words I heard will not change. They came from the Lord God All-Powerful, the ruler of all the earth, and these things will be done.
Now, ·you must not make fun of these things [do not mock; or stop your mocking], or the ·ropes [or chains; bonds] around you will become ·tighter [or heavier]. The Lord God ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; T of hosts] has ·told me [decreed to me] how the whole ·earth [land] will be destroyed.
Now, you must not make fun of these things. If you do, the ropes around you will become tighter. The Lord of heaven’s armies has told me these things. He has told me how the whole earth will be destroyed.
“Then you’ll see that your precious life insurance policy wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. Your careful precautions against death were a pack of illusions and lies. When the disaster happens, you’ll be crushed by it. Every time disaster comes, you’ll be in on it— disaster in the morning, disaster at night.” Every report of disaster will send you cowering in terror. There will be no place where you can rest, nothing to hide under. God will rise to full stature, raging as he did long ago on Mount Perazim And in the valley of Gibeon against the Philistines. But this time it’s against you. Hard to believe, but true. Not what you’d expect, but it’s coming. Sober up, friends, and don’t scoff. Scoffing will just make it worse. I’ve heard the orders issued for destruction, orders from God-of-the-Angel-Armies—ending up in an international disaster.
So don’t keep laughing it off, or your chains will be made even stronger. For I heard from the Lord, the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, that an absolute end has been determined for the whole earth.
And now do not ye scorn, lest peradventure your bonds be made strait together; for I heard of the Lord God of hosts, ending and abridging on all (the) earth. (And now do not ye mock, lest peradventure your bonds be made altogether strait, or tight; for I have heard from the Lord God of hosts, of the ending and the shortening, or destruction, of all the earth.)
